Message from the Programme Director
On behalf of all of my colleagues in the Department of Pharmaceutics, welcome to the MSc in Drug Delivery website. The MSc was conceived in 2002 in response to a market need for well-qualified scientists capable of developing promising new drugs into world-class medicines. It is aimed at graduates with a first degree in a life science, not necessarily pharmacy, who want to work in the field of pharmaceutics, be that in industry or academia. Since inception the course has developed in response to student feedback and market trends and over the past two years has attracted record numbers. The range of taught options available has increased to 5, giving you flexibility and the chance to match the syllabus to your specific needs.
The research project, perhaps the most exciting aspect of the programme, now lasts 7 months; during this period you will join the research group of one of our world-leading academics, pursuing research that will push forward the boundaries of contemporary medicine design and help to bear, in the words of the School's motto, health to the world.
In addition to providing a stimulating and vibrant experience while you study here, we recognise that often the main attraction for studying in higher education is to increase your employability and so in 2009 we introduced pastoral elements that maximise the value of the course for your future careers; these include building a Course Portfolio, classes to develop your key skills in communication, calculations and IT and programmes to provide you with transferable skills in the art of, among other things, HPLC, DSC and dissolution testing. These elements combine to provide evidence of continuing professional development, which will be invaluable to your future employer. Our close links with the UK pharma industry also mean we can arrange careers days where you will have direct access to potential employers.
Take the time to see what the degree offers and consider coming to study here and being a successful part of the history of this magnificent institution. Should you have any queries about the degree, studying at the School, admissions or how an MSc may help you attain your career goals please do not hesitate to contact me. I look forward to welcoming you to the course and taking pride in seeing you graduate.
