The 2013 cohort from the Centre for Doctoral Training participated in a training week held at the UCL School of Pharmacy.

The School of Pharmacy at the University of Nottingham and the UCL School of Pharmacy jointly run a CDT in in Targeted Therapeutics and Formulation Sciences. The 2013 student cohort just finished their two laboratory training placements of 3 months each. Prior to starting their PhD projects in May, they all participated in a training week at the UCL School of Pharmacy from 28th April to 2nd May.

Training activities included an afternoon of lectures on analytical techniques used in formulation, scientific writing and preparing grant applications. The students visited GSK to learn about particle sciences, inhaled formulations, process engineering. The students then participated in a grant writing exercise where they formed multi-disciplined collaborative teams of 3 students each. There were three teams, which were each interviewed after submission of their project application. The training process gave these first year students a chance to learn about how grants are written and evaluated.
