Report on the Third Symposium of Neuroscience Researchers at UCL School of Pharmacy

The Neuroscience in Health and Disease and Disease Models and Clinical Pharmacology clusters held a joint symposium under the theme 'Building research collaborations' on May 16th 2014 at Regent's college, London.The programme was designed to encourage the exchange of ideas and scientific discussion focused on the current and future research. The Keynote Lecture was presented by Professor Patricia Salinas from the UCL Department of Cell and Developmental Biology. The programme included a poster session by PhD students and series of short talks by postdoctoral assistants and young investigators.

Session One: Neurodegeneration: Is there a cure? Ahad Rahim, Daniel Berwick, Sarah Cousin, Sigrun Lange.

Session Two: Homeostatic mechanisms: from molecules to circuits Phil Long, Omar Loss, Arnaud Ruiz, Audrey Mercer.

Session Three: Emerging stories from the voltage-gated ion channels Melodie Borel,  Katiuscia Martinello, Agota Biro, Antoine Bremaud.

Prizes were given to the best posters (Simone Granno and Caitriona O’Rourke, PhD students in Kirsten Harvey’s and James Phillips’ laboratories respectively) and best talks (Dr Dan Berwick and Dr Phil Long, postdoctoral fellows in Kirsten Harvey and Robert Harvey’s laboratories respectively).

The symposium was followed by a wine reception in the secret garden of Regent’s College.

The symposium was organised by Dr Jasmina Jovanovic and Dr Afia Ali.
