CDT Programme structure

The Centre for Doctoral Training builds on the University of Nottingham’s and UCL’s close relationships with leading industrial partners and academic institutions world-wide to offer training in the diverse and challenging disciplines underlying pharmaceutical science. The CDT schemes combine expertise in analytical and medicinal chemistry, with materials science, engineering, biology and industrial pharmaceutics, to equip researchers with the skills they need to develop the next generation of pharmaceutical products. 

The CDT offers a 4-year Doctoral Training Programme that involves a series of training projects and modules in the first year of study before undertaking a full PhD project. In addition, integrated summer schools and winter meetings across University and industrial sites take place, allowing unrivalled access for students to gain pharmaceutical research expertise. We maintain a broad-based training approach such that researchers will have innovation and entrepreneurial skills, so vital for the developing industry sector.

CDT Scheme

Research Areas: The aim of the Centre is to enhance the delivery of drugs within the patient.  The core science themes of advanced pharmaceutical analysis, novel materials and nanotechnology will: 

  • Underpin new formulations that target molecules spatially within the body or within cells 
  • Control the temporal release of drugs 
  • Enhance the bioequivalence of poorly soluble drugs and biologics 
  • Improve patient experience and compliance
