UCL School of Pharmacy researchers successfully use desktop inkjet printers to produce carbamazepine

Dr Simon Gaisford’s latest innovation has been highlighted in the Royal Society of Chemistry’s online publication, Chemistry World. Simon lead a project that looked into the use of desktop inkjet printers to prepare carbamazepine. ‘Desktop inkjet printers offer amazing control of droplet position in order to produce photographic images,’ said Simon. ‘So in this instance the technology can really be considered to be more advanced than is needed for crystal templating, although it is evident that the smaller the droplet size and printing resolution the better the potential of the technique.’ For the full story, follow the link to the Chemistry World article. http://www.rsc.org/chemistryworld/2013/02/co-crystal-drugs-inkjet-printer
