Professor Abdul Basit appointed to the scientific advisory board of the Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI)
Professor Abdul Basit (Department of Pharmaceutics, UCL School of Pharmacy) has been recently appointed to the scientific advisory board of the Clinton Healthcare Access Initiative (CHAI). Chaired by President Bill Clinton, CHAI is saving lives in developing countries by helping people gain access to essential medicines and health services. CHAI is a not-for-profit organisation which seeks to develop sustainable infrastructural models for healthcare provision in poorer economic countries of the world through lowering the costs of medicinal products and devices, in addition to improving access to these resources and funding core medical research. Professor Basit's role entails the provision of strategic expertise on formulation of new and affordable medicines, and involvement in the development of viable therapeutic entities for the treatment of HIV/AIDS and malaria.
