What should I do if a tutee asks me to sign off a risk assessment or similar form?
For field work, excursions, work experience or year abroad, the risk assessment is of legal significance and should not be signed off without recognition of the responsibility entailed. If a student is asking you to sign such a form, rather than taking it to the staff member who is responsible for arranging the activity and assessing its risks, you must politely decline and direct them to the appropriate person to ensure that the authorisation is done properly.
If you are organising an activity on or off-campus which may entail some risks, UCL Safety Services can advise on proper risk assessments and procedures.
