Deafness Cognition and Language (DCAL) Centre launches Deaf Awareness Online Course

27 October 2016

The UCL Deafness, Cognition and Language (DCAL) Centre have developed an innovative online short course, ‘Deaf Awareness: Working and Communicating Well with Deaf People’ to improve the way professionals engage with Deaf people and people with a hearing loss.

Deaf awareness is about promoting the positive aspects of deafness and social inclusion. The course is a unique opportunity for individuals and organisations to tap into the expertise of a globally recognised academic centre working on the communication of deaf people.  Learning is flexible, of a very high quality and will lead to a certificate of participation from UCL,  one of the world’s leading universities.

Professor Michael Arthur, UCL President and Provost said: “The new online short course, Deaf Awareness: Working and Communicating Well with Deaf People, developed by DCAL, is a fantastic innovation in how we are using our world class research to remove barriers and ensure equality across society. This course will certainly make an important contribution to any organisation that wants to ensure equal access for staff that are deaf or have hearing loss. So I would commend members of our academic community to sign up.”
