Data Collection

Data collected by each hospital is entered into the central cardiac audit database (CCAD) from a local client computer. This is achieved by using a CCAD supplied user interface, or where a cardiac clinical software system is used in the hospital, as a file in a CCAD defined format, exported from that system. Updates to the central database take place over NHSnet or the Internet.

All Trusts are required to submit a minimum of 20 cases (admissions and readmissions) per month (or the full number of admissions if less than 20).

The reporting period is 1st April-31st March, and all data for this period must be submitted to the database by 30th June. The deadline has been extended because of delays due to the NICOR migration. Any data submitted after 30th June 2012 will not be included in the 2011/12 audit report.
