Data collected by each hospital is entered into the central cardiac audit database (CCAD) from a local client computer. This is achieved by using a CCAD supplied user interface, or where a cardiac clinical software system is used in the hospital, as a file in a CCAD defined format, exported from that system. Updates to the central database take place over NHSnet or the Internet.
From April 2013, all Trusts are required to include all unscheduled admissions to hospital with a discharge diagnosis of heart failure in the primary position. 70% of the expected number will be accepted as a minimum.
The reporting period is 1 April to 31 March. In 2013-14, all data for the audit period 1 April 2013 to 31 March 2014 must be submitted to the database by 2 June 2014.
