The body of literature
This cartoon by Martin Rowson illustrates the chapter ‘The Body of Literature: Heads, Lungs, Hearts and Bowels’ in ‘Curiosities of Literature: A Book-lover’s Anthology of Literary Erudition’ by John Sutherland, UCL Emeritus Lord Northcliffe Professor of Modern English Literature, published this week by Random House.
In the book, Professor Sutherland provides light-hearted, witty discussions of literary questions such as the impact of the weather on the development of English literature and how Dante Gabriel Rossetti's poems returned from the dead.
