#LoveUCL Instagram competition

Enter our monthly #LoveUCL student photo competition on Instagram in the 2023-24 academic year and be in with a chance to win a Love2Shop voucher!

Each month from October 2023 to the end of May 2024 you could win a £50 Love2shop voucher and have your photo featured on the UCL Instagram account! If you win one of the eight monthly competitions you will also be in with the chance to win one of three prizes in our Photo of the Year competition in July 2024!

To enter, simply post an original photo of yours showcasing life at UCL to Instagram with the #LoveUCL hashtag, tag and DM @ucl between the start of 1 October 2023 and 31 May 2024.

We're looking for photos that capture the dynamism of life at UCL, contain original and interesting subject matter, and demonstrate strong composition. The photo must be your own work too, not someone else's.

The winner of each monthly competition will be chosen by a vote by our Instagram followers so make sure you're following us. The winner of the Photo of the Year competition will be chosen by a vote across our Instagram, Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn accounts.

Photo of the Year Competition

In July 2024 the eight winners of our monthly competitions will be automatically entered into our Photo of the Year competition. We'll ask followers of our Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter and Instagram accounts to pick their favourite of the eight photos with the winner taking home a framed copy of their photo and a £200 Love2shop voucher, second place receiving a £100 Love2shop voucher, and third place claiming a £50 Love2shop voucher.

So start sharing your photos of life at UCL! We want to see what it's like studying at UCL and living in London, one of the most exciting cities in the world.

RULES
  • All entrants must be current and enrolled students of UCL.
  • All entrants must be the sole owner and author of their entry.
  • All entrants must not have won a previous monthly #LoveUCL competition in the 2023-24 academic year.
  • Eligible entries must:
    • be a photo posted to Instagram
    • have the #LoveUCL hashtag in the post's caption
    • inform us of your entry via tagging @ucl and direct message (DM)'s
    • capture the dynamism of life at UCL
    • contain original and interesting subject matter
    • demonstrate strong composition.
  • Entrants must provide their full name, course and their photo if selected as a winner.
  • Entrants must agree to the above information and their submitted entry being published in the myUCL student e-newsletter, on UCL's official social media channels, across UCL's websites and in UCL printed and digital publications.

2021-22

The winner of our 2021-22 #LoveUCL student 'Photo of the Year' competition is MSc Data Science for Cultural Heritage (@thebartlettucl) student Yunfei Gao (@meteor_gao) for his dramatic long exposure shot of the Portico at night (view the photo on Instagram). Out of the 8 contestants, his photo received 21% of the 1,969 votes cast on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn.

2019-20

2018-19

Pictured here is the winner of our 2018-19 #LoveUCL Instagram 'Photo of the Year' competition - Saif Masood (UCL Mechanical Engineering) with his wonderful shot of the atrium in the new Student Centre taken not long after it opened (view it on our Instagram channel). His photo received 37% of the 1,629 votes cast on Facebook and Instagram.

2017-18

After a year of fantastic submissions from UCL students, the winner of our 2017-18 'Photo of the Year' competition was Shattyk Tastemirova (The Bartlett Development Planning Unit), with a great black and white shot looking out from the portico of the UCL’s Wilkins Building.

2016-17

With more than 40% of the 1,652 votes cast on Facebook and Instagram, Shamita Yasna (UCL School of Management) is our #loveUCL Instagram competition 2016-17 winner, with a perfectly framed shot taken in the Main Library.

Our second and third-placed runners-up are Isabelle Arusilor (UCL Bartlett School of Architecture), with a fantastic shot of a sunset in the Main Quad, and Mehmet Davrandi (UCL Eastman Dental Institute), with a stunning composition featuring bacteria growth on an agar plate

2015-16

Over the course of the 2015-16 academic year, eight images were shortlisted for the chance to be named the overall winner and to receive a £100 Amazon voucher prize.

After an incredibly close vote, Ankit Bhatt (UCL Population Health Sciences) is our #loveUCL Instagram competition 2015-16 winner, polling the most cumulative votes on Facebook and Instagram with a stunning shot taken in the Bloomsbury Theatre - congratulations, Ankit!

2014-15

With roughly 30% of the 1,000 votes cast on Facebook and Instagram, Shafiq Azid (Language Sciences MSc) is this year's overall winner with his striking shot of the Grant Museum of Zoology's Micrarium.
