UCL Widening Participation and teachers: call for academics and tutors

UCL's Access and Widening Participation Office has been working with schools for more than 30 years.

Today the 36-strong team runs more than 50 programmes and projects with the aim of increasing the number of students from underrepresented backgrounds at UCL. 

Our varied programme includes summer schools, taster days, conferences, evening courses and Saturday schools, all of which are targeted at students from underrepresented backgrounds, their teachers and parents/carers.

There is a vast range of education options for 16-18 year olds and, therefore, the importance of a well-informed support network for students cannot be underestimated. With this is mind, UCL's Access and Widening Participation Office has a team dedicated to working with teachers and careers advisers in state schools: the Teacher & Professional Engagement team.

The team helps teachers and careers advisers to be in the best position to advise their students on HE choices with regular communication, course information and updates. Teachers are invited to join our professional network, offering access to lesson plans, networking opportunities and online forums, as well as a variety of exciting CPD training opportunities, providing ideas and strategies that can be used in everyday work with students. 

Our programme of activity also includes teacher taster days, masterclasses and an accredited online module, 'Enabling social mobility through education'. Plans for future activities include a teachers' open day and a project to aid the transition between primary and secondary school.
