This week the spotlight is on Pat Dunne, Electrical Supervisor, UCL Estates.
What is your role and what does it involve?
Electrical Supervisor – I look after the main campus, managing the day-to-day electrical faults, preventive maintenance tasks and statutory testing.
How long have you been at UCL and what was your previous role?
22 years – before that I worked in the electrical contracting industry.
What working achievement or initiative are you most proud of?
The electrical department’s safety record.
Tell us about a project you are working on now which is top of your to-do list?
Updating our lighting to LED – apart from the green aspect, I am keen to remove the old sodium outside lights, which causes a lot of light pollution. So that should please all you astronomers out there.
What is your favourite album, film and novel?
Album -Dark side of the moon – Pink Floyd
Film – Blade Runner
Book – Autobiography of a Supertramp – W H Davies
What is your favourite joke (pre-watershed)
"I've just been on a once-in-a-lifetime holiday. I'll tell you what, never again."
Who would be your dream dinner guests?
Jimi Hendrix, Sarah Bernhardt, David Gilmour, Dylan Thomas and Oscar Wilde – not sure what to cook, though I’m sure I will need to order extra booze!!!
What advice would you give your younger self?
Buy shares in Google, Apple and Amazon and do not invest the profits with Barings bank.
What would it surprise people to know about you?
I used to run two websites. One was an encyclopaedia and the other was a pub guide. We nearly amalgamated with Fancyapint many years ago.
What is your favourite place?
The Beara Peninsula in the South West coast of Ireland. It's Ireland’s hidden gem part of the wild Atlantic way.
