UCL's central student recruitment resource move into single department: Student Recruitment Marketing

26 January 2017

Student Recruitment Marketing is a new configuration within the Communications and Marketing Division (CAM) which brings together UCL's central student recruitment resource into a single department.

Students

The department has been created from the former International Office and Publications and Marketing Services (PAMS) sections within CAM and elements of the former IOE External Relations Office and IOE International. The final part of the jigsaw was completed this month with elements of the UK undergraduate recruitment team joining Student  Recruitment Marketing (SRM).  Widening Participation-focused undergraduate recruitment activity remains within Student and Registry Services.

By bringing together these elements into a single department, it has been possible to maintain existing activity while freeing up resource to strengthen UCL's market research and digital marketing capacity. There are many external threats to student  recruitment including: decreasing numbers of international students coming to the UK, possible further restrictions on student visas, falling numbers of 18-30 year olds in the UK, and all of the uncertainties that Brexit presents. A single central department working closely with academic departments and faculties will give UCL a coordinated and resilient approach to overcoming these challenges.

The department's remit and responsibilities include:

  • Market research and data analysis
  • Design and production of prospectuses and other recruitment publications
  • Design, production and maintenance of prospective student websites
  • Developing and maintaining productive relationships with the advisers and sponsors of prospective students
  • Negotiating shared scholarship agreements with funding bodies
  • International student recruitment
  • EU student recruitment
  • UK undergraduate student recruitment
  • UK graduate student recruitment
  • Undergraduate and Graduate Open Days
  • Affiliate student recruitment
  • Summer School marketing and recruitment
  • Digital marketing including the CRM system and student recruitment social media
  • Video and audio - student recruitment

SRM is comprised of three sections:

  • Student Recruitment Operations;
  • Student Recruitment Media; and
  • Data and Market Research.

Details of the teams within these sections, the roles and responsibilities of team members, contact details, and the resources and support available for departments and faculties can be found on the CAM website.
