Out@UCL at Pride in London 2018

28 June 2018

Out@UCL have been blown away by the interest in marching in the Pride in London parade on Saturday 7 July and are delighted to announce that they have reached their limit of 60 marchers!

Out@UCL Pride in London

If you didn't get a chance to register in time, don't despair! Pride in London is always looking for volunteers to help on the day, so if you still want to be part of it, it's an excellent way to still be involved and to be at the heart of the parade! Sign up on the Pride in London website.

All UCL staff are welcome to the LUKI Pride After Party from 6pm, co-hosted with our friends from LSE, Kings and Imperial at the George Birkbeck Bar in Malet Place. We are fortunate that we will have the space entirely to ourselves (including the massive roof terrace!). RSVP on eventbrite.

The following day on Sunday 8 July UK Black Pride will be taking place in Vauxhall Park from 12pm onwards. Rather than a parade, the day is more of a festival celebrating Africa, Asian, Caribbean, Middle Eastern and Latin American culture, with live music acts and stalls. I will be attending so if you would also like to join the UCL group, please contact out@ucl.ac.uk. Allies are of course welcome and encouraged to attend! The following letter written by Lady Phyll Opoku-Gyimah (Director and Co-Founder of UK Black Pride) explains rather eloquently why the event exists.

In a similar vein, on Saturday 21 July, Trans Pride Brighton will be taking place in Brunswick Square, Brighton. Trans Pride is the UK's largest celebration of trans, intersex and gender non-conforming people - you can find out more about last year's event here. If anyone would be interested in attending and forming a UCL contingent, please do let Anne and myself know by emailing out@ucl.ac.uk.

Whether you are able to join in the activities or not, we wish you a Happy Pride Month from all at Out@UCL!

Don't forget to subscribe to the Out@UCL mailing list or Friends of Out@UCL mailing list by emailing out@ucl.ac.uk.
