UCL professor meets politicians at a critical time for science and research

Graeme Reid, UCL Professor of Science and Research Policy in the Office of the UCL Vice-Provost (Research), and Chair of the Campaign for Science and Engineering, will be chairing fringe meetings on science and research at each of three major political party conferences over the next few weeks. The events, at Labour, Conservative and SNP party conferences, are organised jointly by the Royal Society, the Academy of Medical Sciences, the Royal Academy of Engineering and the British Academy.

MPs from the major parties will join the events, alongside leading figures from businesses, charities and universities including the Director General of the CBI and the Chief Executive of the British Heart Foundation.  

Professor Reid said, "With higher education legislation in Parliament and major concerns about the impact of Brexit, it is vital that the political and scientific communities should continue to exchange views and explore common interests. This is a valuable chance to discuss with politicians the big issues at the interface between politics and science. I am delighted to have these opportunities to chair discussions during this year's political party conferences."
