Voluntary healthcare scheme- reminder of end of medical history disregarded window

4 December 2014

As part of a wider review of reward provision and in response to feedback from staff in the last Staff Survey, UCL is assessing the range of benefits available to staff, with a view to expanding the number on offer.

Quad

As an initial step a new voluntary healthcare scheme has been launched, which allows employees to take advantage of highly discounted medical insurance, should they wish to do so.

The scheme provided by AXA PPA offers employees and their dependents and/or family prompt access to eligible private medical treatment, allowing them to get the treatment they need, when they need it.

Under this scheme membership premiums for the four available plans have been discounted by up to 50% (when compared with AXA PPP's standard premiums).

AXA PPP has also offered UCL staff a limited opportunity to join the Premier and Key plans on a Medical History Disregarded basis for a period of up to 6 weeks after the launch date of the 3rd November. This means that if you have a historical medical condition you may still be covered for it so long as you do not have any planned treatment. After the 6 week launch period staff will be able to join the scheme at any time, but the Medical History Disregarded option will no longer be available. For full terms and further information please call AXA on 0800 0321 950, quoting reference 96369.

The scheme already has a substantial membership across many other universities and is recognised as the leading source of medical insurance within higher education.

AXA PPP healthcare has a network of over 250 hospitals which have been assessed for their quality, value and range of services they provide. A directory details the various hospitals and scanning centres they cover.

Summary of the advantages of the offer:

  • Discounted premiums
  • Join on a medical history disregarded basis (Premier & Key Plans only) providing you can confirm that neither yourself nor anyone else on the policy, has any ongoing claims or treatment, and there is no treatment planned or booked within 3 months of the start date of the policy
  • Choose from 4 different Plans
  • A £50 Marks & Spencers voucher for new joiners
  • Child rates are available including 21-25 year old dependents, provided they are in full-time education.
  • Health at Hand - A confidential health information service to all subscribers including Care & Stress Counselling service
  • Continued cover in retirement.

The formal launch date for the scheme was the 3rd November 2014. Employees interested in joining the scheme are advised to sign up before the 19 December to benefit from the MHD arrangement. This can be done by calling AXA on 0800 0321 950, quoting reference 96369.

More information about the four plans available can be found here and on the UCL Employee Benefits page. If you have any suggestions regarding UCL's benefit provision, including any benefits you would like to see UCL offer, we would welcome your feedback. Please contact Mark Rice (m.rice@ucl.ac.uk) - Reward Manager in the HR Division with any suggestions.
