Potential protests at UCL Open Day

UCL Estates and UCL Student Accommodation are in touch with the students concerned and their representatives from the rent strike campaign and have made significant efforts to address the issues they have raised.

Only a very small number of students are currently on rent strike - 7 out of a total of 87 tenants in our Campbell House West residence and 4 out of 210 at Hawkridge House. All student appeals are currently being considered as part of the established compensation process and an outcome is expected at the end of July.

All students were offered alternative options for revision space and, in some cases, additional accommodation. We have also made clear that there will be no academic sanctions for any students who do not pay their rent, though we reserve the right not to renew contracts of non-payers in UCL accommodation.

UCL's Open Days are intended to celebrate all that the university has to offer. This includes the continued improvement of our built environment, facilities and learning environment, where significant investment is being made for the benefit of current and future students.

UCL supports the right of student groups to peaceful protest, as long as this recognises the right of others to go about their business at UCL.

Open Days are a valuable opportunity for potential students and their families to visit the university, and we ask any protestors to respect their right to do this as we respect their right to protest. UCL Security are aware of the potential protests and will be monitoring the situation.
