Higher Education Statistics Agency: update your UCL staff data

18 July 2013

All staff are asked ensure that the data UCL holds on you is up to date prior to the University's submission to the Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA).

While holding accurate personal information is a matter of good practice, the data provided to HESA will also be relevant for the Research Excellence Framework (REF) exercise.

You can update your HESA record by completing the form at https://www.ucl.ac.uk/hr/hesa-survey/live/.

UCL is required by law to collect statistical information on the composition of our workforce. We must provide data on disability, gender and ethnicity to the HESA and we are also encouraged to collect data on religion / belief and sexual orientation. The HESA also requires us to provide information on things such as previous employment, qualifications and clinical regulatory bodies and specialities (if relevant). The personal information you provide is held on a secure database and at no stage will you be identified by your response.

The data are returned anonymously by UCL and are used to benchmark against other higher education institutions. Equalities and diversity information is also used within UCL to formulate evidence-based policy initiatives to address equalities issues and assist with action planning at the faculty and department level.

The closing date for this data collection is 9th August 2013.

If you have any questions about HESA data, please contact Rachna Kayastha, HR Information Manager, r.kayastha@ucl.ac.uk.
