UCL at London Pride

On Saturday 2 July, representatives from

ucl.ac.uk/hr/equalities/lgbt/lgbt_group.php" target="_self">Out@UCL - UCL's Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) staff network - took part in London's annual Pride march to promote equality for LGBT people.

Thousands of people marched the streets of central London to celebrate and promote equal rights for gay people around the world. Around 120 groups were represented in the march, including a number of other universities. Imperial College London, Essex University and the University of East London were also marching proudly alongside UCL.

It was one of the biggest Pride marches in London ever and it is estimated that over a million people gathered to watch or participate. Prominent LGBT equality advocates such as Peter Tatchell, human rights campaigner and Brian Paddick, politician and former police officer were among those who lined the streets.

Max Hill, Chair of the UCL LGBT Equality Group said: "For the first time UCL staff took part in this year's London Pride event. The staff network Out@UCL proudly carried our colourful banner through the busy streets of central London where we were met with many a cheer from students, staff and alumni of UCL."
