UCL Parents and Carers Together (PACT) network event: The best medicine - relationship support for carers of people affected by long term health conditions

19 February 2015

Parents And Carers Together network is pleased to invite you to the following session: Date:     Thursday, 26 February 2015 Time:     1 pm-2pm Title:      The best medicine - relationship support for carers of people affected by long term health conditions By:         Helen Undy Place:    Darwin B05 (access from back entrance) Helen Undy is Public Affairs manager at Relate (

Quad in autumn relate.org/" target="_self">www.relate.org), a charity organisation providing relationship support, family lives, caring responsibilities, etc. Next month they will be launching a campaign about relationships and long term health conditions. We know that our relationships have an impact on our physical and mental health, and that our health has an impact on our relationships, but there's very little support out there and still a lot of stigma associated with accessing relationship support. The health service tends to treat people in isolation and the campaign is calling for more support to be made available for people and their loved ones to keep our relationships strong. We're not just talking about couple relationships, the campaign is about couple, social and family relationships - all of which have a big impact on our health and wellbeing. Most people either experience a long term health condition or support someone who does at some point in their lives so hopefully it should be of interest to others too.

The organisation is producing a policy report summarising the evidence and making recommendations for local and national policy and practice, and launching a campaign alongside. The campaign aims both to increase the availability of relationships support and to raise awareness of the link between relationships and health. People sharing their stories will be an important part of the campaign as it will help people to relate to what we're talking about and to understand why it's important.

This is an informal session so please feel free to bring your lunch. The talk will last for about an hour and Helen will be available for one to one queries shortly afterwards. Please register by emailing to equalities@ucl.ac.uk

I look forward to seeing you there.
