UCL Human Resources changes: HR Advisory Services (previously HR Consultancy Services)

27 January 2016

As you will have read in The Week@UCL just before the Christmas break, UCL HR has revised the structure through which we deliver services to our customers: UCL's managers and staff.

Quad

The new structure, which took effect from 4 January 2016, and associated planned future enhancements to the ways in which we engage with you, will make it easier for you to access our services. Additionally, the changes will increase the capacity of HR Advisory Services staff to provide advice and support to managers and staff on increasingly complex employee relations issues and broader strategic business partnering support.

What's changing?

HR Consultancy Services is now called HR Advisory Services. This better reflects what we do: provide managers and staff with the best professional advice to inform their decisions. The services provided will remain as at present, developing in line with your strategic priorities and needs. Over time, planned future enhancements will make our performance, services and responsibilities clearer and easier to access.

As part of the changes, responsibility for the senior academic promotions process as well as job grading and evaluation processes, has moved from our team to HR Strategy and Planning, under the direction of Mark Rice, who has been appointed as Head of Reward Policy. Further advice about this and other changes will be provided separately by Geoff Lang, Director, HR Strategy & Policy, in a future article.

Our job titles have changed. I am now Director of HR Advisory Services. The Senior HR Consultants are now Principal HR Business Partners. The HR Consultants are now HR Business Partners. The HR Officers are now Assistant HR Business Partners.

How these changes will enable us to assist you better is explained by Eileen Harvey, who is one of the Principal HR Business Partners.
