Professor Marcel Levi to join UCLH as Chief Executive

UCLH has announced the appointment of Professor Marcel Levi as its new Chief Executive.

Marcel Levi He is due to take up the post on 3 January 2017, succeeding UCLH's current Chief Executive, Sir Robert Naylor.

Marcel Levi has had a distinguished career as a clinician, academic and clinical leader in the Netherlands. He has been Chairman of the Executive Board of the Academic Medical Center, University of Amsterdam since 2010 and for the previous ten years was chairman of its Department of Medicine and Division of Medical Specialisms. He studied medicine at the University of Amsterdam and in 1991 obtained his PhD and was appointed as a Fellow by the Royal Netherlands Academy of Science. He is a practising consultant physician, specialising in haemostasis and thrombosis, and leads an active research programme.

Welcoming the announcement, UCL President & Provost Professor Michael Arthur said: "I would like to offer my congratulations to Marcel on his appointment as Chief Executive of UCLH. As a first-class clinician, researcher and educator, Marcel's appointment is excellent news for UCLH patients and staff as well as the many UCL researchers who work with the Trust. UCL has a long history of world-leading clinical research collaborations with our partner hospitals, and I am confident that our relationship with UCLH will continue to flourish under Marcel's leadership."

Marcel said: "It is a great privilege to become Chief Executive at a Trust with UCLH's reputation and history. I am fortunate to have been part of an excellent team at the Academic Medical Center for more than 25 years and I look forward to working with UCLH's patients and staff to deliver top-quality patient care, excellent education and world class research."
