New Dean for UCL Faculty of Life Sciences

Geraint Rees, Director of the UCL Institute of Cognitive Neuroscience has been appointed to the next Dean of the Faculty of Life Sciences, with effect from 1 September 2014.

Professor Michael Arthur, UCL President and Provost commented:

"Professor Rees is an outstanding biomedical scientist with a proven track record of excellent leadership. I am delighted that he has accepted this deanship at UCL and I look forward to working with him on Faculty issues and as a member of the University's Senior Management Team."

Professor Sir John Tooke, UCL Vice Provost (Health) added:

"I have worked closely with Geraint on a number of projects over the years. As well as his work as a renowned neurologist and neuroscientist, he has developed and led with distinction our Academic Careers Office and contributed extensively to national policy and practice in this area. As Chair of the SLMS Enterprise & Knowledge Transfer Board he has helped advance our engagement with industry and involvement with enterprise and entrepreneurship. He is also a member of the Francis Crick Institute Executive Team helping to develop this centre of excellence in biomedical research and innovation and it's interactions with UCL.

"This range of experience and interests makes him an ideal Dean for the Faculty of Life Sciences and I am confident that he will continue the Faculty's success and in collaboration with colleagues develop the strategy and vision for the future"

Professor Rees commented:

"Fundamental discoveries in the life sciences are central to UCL's mission as London's global University, so I am excited to be appointed Dean and look forward to working with an incredibly talented team to further strengthen research, teaching and innovation across this critically important Faculty"
