UCL Institute of the Americas

UCL is building on its existing strength in teaching and research on the Americas by establishing the UCL Institute of the Americas as part of the Faculty of Social and Historical Sciences.
The UCL Institute of the Americas will promote, coordinate and provide a focus for research and postgraduate teaching on the Americas - Latin America, the United States, the Caribbean and Canada. It will also be offering a series of events and regular seminar series from next autumn on a variety of themes and countries. These will be advertised on the website in due course.
The new Institute will be headed by Professor Maxine Molyneux from July 2012. She is currently Director of the Institute for the Study of the Americas at the School of Advanced Study (SAS), University of London.
She will be joined by Professor Iwan Morgan, Professor Kevin Middlebrook, Dr. Paulo Drinot, Dr. Kate Quinn, Dr. Par Engstrom and Dr. Graham Woodgate also currently in post at SAS.
Professor Maxine Molyneux, Director of the Institute of the Americas, explained: "The Institute of the Americas will benefit from UCL's existing strengths in developing its interdisciplinary teaching, research and events programme.
"In addition to our own faculty members, there are around 50 colleagues in UCL with research expertise in the Americas, as well as many others who specialise in cross cutting areas such as development policy, international history and politics, and human rights. This will enable us to provide students with a stimulating and wide ranging programme covering Latin America, the United States, the Caribbean and Canada."
The Institute of the Americas will benefit from UCL's existing strengths in developing its interdisciplinary teaching, research and events programme.

The Institute will be offering five Masters programmes:
- Caribbean and Latin American Studies MA
- Globalisation and Latin American Development MSc
- Latin American Politics MSc
- Latin American Studies MA
- United States Studies: History and Politics MA
The Institute of the Americas is pleased to be offering 15 bursaries. Ten will be available for UK/EU students, five will be available for overseas students of which two are earmarked for students from Latin America and the Caribbean.
