UCL receives £174m HEFCE Grant for 2012-13

29 March 2012

UCL's HEFCE grant for the financial year 2012-13 has been announced today as £174.

UCL Portico and Quad 3m, representing a reduction of £7.5m (4.1%) on funding for 2011-12.

This compares with an overall sector reduction of 18.8%, which reflects the phasing out of the teaching grant and the move to tuition fees of up to £9,000 for new UK/EU undergraduates from 2012-13.

Although UCL's teaching grant has been reduced by 14.7% compared with 2011-12, it has benefited from changes to the allocation of HEFCE research fund funding which produces an increase of 2.1% for UCL, compared with a cash standstill on research funding for the sector as a whole.

Overall, UCL has moved to second position in total HEFCE allocation, overtaking the Open University, Manchester and Cambridge and behind Oxford.

Total Grant 2012-13 (£m)

  • University of Oxford 177.8
  • University College London 174.3
  • University of Cambridge 169.2
  • University of Manchester 160.3
