Thursday 28 February sees UCL take part in its first ever ‘Global Student Engagement and Philanthropy Event’, recognising and celebrating the financial support that UCL staff, students and societies have received from thousands of generous UCL alumni.

From £3 to £3 million, UCL alumni gifts support a huge number of areas across the university. These generous donations have included:

  • Supporting a UCL education via scholarships, bursaries and the student hardship fund;
  • Creating fantastic student facilities including the Print Room Café, the Richard Mully Basement Bar, the George Farha Café and the new dance studio in the redeveloped Lewis’s Building;
  • Supporting a range of student activities, societies and sports teams through the Friends Trust.

The event will be UCL’s chance to say thank you for the difference that alumni gifts have made to our departments, studies and societies. It is one of a series of global events happening across Europe and North America to remind students of the vital role that the philanthropy of others plays in their educational experience

Between 11.00am and 3pm all staff, students and societies are invited to Jeremy Bentham’s pop-up photo booth in the South Cloisters and have their ‘Thank You!’ photo taken. Free tea, coffee and cakes will be served and a team of student ambassadors will be on hand to discuss the impact of philanthropy at UCL, as well as staff from the Development and Alumni Relations Office.

Everyone who takes part will receive a Jeremy Bentham pop-up paper head and will be entered into a prize draw for Bloomsbury Theatre tickets. All photos will be available to download after the event.

It is essential that societies book ahead. To reserve a slot for your society simply email Rosie: r.simm@ucl.ac.uk with your preferred time and anticipated number.
