Policy seminars to feature Jack Straw, Gus O'Donnell, John Gieve, Jonathan Powell

Highlights this term include:

• Visiting Professor Lord (Gus) O'Donnell, former Cabinet Secretary, will be speaking on 1 November on the topic 'In Defence of Bureaucracy', complementing a Radio 4 programme on the same subject he is making.
• Visiting Professor Michael Jacobs (a former adviser to Gordon Brown) and Duncan Brack (a former adviser to Chris Huhne) will be speaking on 22 November about the work of Special Advisers.
• Visiting Professor Sir John Gieve, former Deputy Governor of the Bank of England, and former Blair adviser Lord (Roger) Liddle will be speaking on 29 November on the Eurozone crisis and the democratic deficit.

Highlights next term will include:

• On 17 January, Visiting Professor Tony Wright will be speaking on 'Politics and Politicians', developing themes in his recent book Doing Politics.
• On 7 February Jonathan Powell, former Chief of Staff to Tony Blair and chief government negotiator on Northern Ireland from 1997 to 2007, will be talking about his work on conflict resolution around the world through his NGO Inter Mediate.
• On 7 March Visiting Professor Jack Straw will be talking about his experience as Foreign Secretary, drawing on his recent autobiography Last Man Standing: Memoirs of a Political Survivor.
