At UCL we're proud that our students are global citizens, who are committed to making a difference in the world - and we want to show on our website just how valuable and varied your contribution to society is.

We are looking for images that illustrate one or several of the following qualities:

  • critical and creative thinking
  • ambition, with a commitment to ethical and socially responsible behaviour
  • sensitivity to cultural difference and appreciation of the value of cultural difference in intellectual and social contexts
  • adoption of leadership roles in the family, community or workplace
  • employability and readiness for professional mobility.

For example, the image(s) might show your involvement in a student society that works with local schoolchildren, or the results of your participation in an environmental project, or a prototype of your new business idea, or foreign locations or communities you have studied for your dissertation...

The photographs can have been taken at any time during your studies at UCL - undergraduate or postgraduate.

All you need to do is:

  • upload your photo(s) to your Flickr account at a minimum resolution of 72 dots per inch. Make sure you include your name, UCL department and a short explanatory caption
  • navigate to the competition Flickr group at http://www.flickr.com/groups/1656167@N24, and click 'Join this group'
  • click 'add photos' and start adding your images.

If you haven't got a Flickr account, it only takes a couple of minutes to sign up for a free account and you can use a Yahoo, Google or Facebook ID.

Upload your photos by Monday 3 October 2011 to be in with a chance of winning £50 for the best photo (and two runner-up prizes of £25 each).

A selection of the best photos will be featured on the UCL News Flickr account, the UCL homepage and other UCL communications, along with a credit to the photographer.

Please note:

  • The work must be your own.
  • By adding your photos to our Flickr group you give permission for the image to be used in UCL Communications (with a credit), such as the UCL website.
  • UCL Communications' decision as to the winner is final.
  • You must have permission from parents or guardians of children to take photos in which children under 18 can be identified.

Good luck, and happy snapping!
