Campaign for Social Science: roadshow at UCL

8 June 2011

On 27 June, UCL is hosting a London roadshow to present The Campaign for Social Science - a campaign established to raise the profile of social sciences to address changes to funding teaching and research.

Soc sciences

The social sciences cover a variety of disciplines that include sociology, psychology, political science, economics, environmental studies and anthropology.

The event will take place from 12.30pm-14.00pm in the Old Refectory in the main campus and all are welcome to register.

A key objective of the campaign is to create a popular vision of what social science can do and demonstrate its impact in government and the wider society. The Campaign was set up by the Academy of Social Sciences - a membership organization of over 700 academicians that seeks to promote the value of social sciences in the UK for the public benefit. The event will be hosted by Professor Malcolm Grant, UCL President and Provost and an Academician of the Academy of Social Sciences.

Professor Michael Harloe of the Campaign for Social Science, explained: "The work of academic social science in the UK is among the very best in the world. Our challenge is to ensure people outside of academia know this. We have to ensure that social science is better identified, understood and valued, so that it gets the funding resources it needs to sustain its world class position."

You can register for the event by visiting the link at the top of this page.
