New Director of Human Resources

Mr Nigel Waugh has been appointed as Director of Human Resources at UCL, with effect from 17 January 2011.

Nigel is currently Human Resources Director at the University of Melbourne, a position he has held since December 2007. Prior to this appointment Mr Waugh was Director (Workplace Relations and Health) in the Division of Human Resources of the university. Before joining the university in 2000, Mr Waugh worked in the Australian Public Service and held senior positions in Human Resources in a number of Commonwealth Departments and agencies.

Mr Waugh said: "I am very excited to have the opportunity to contribute to one of the world's leading universities. I look forward to applying my Australian experience to the challenges of funding constraint and increasing global competition which currently face UCL. The challenge for Human Resources in any organisation is to create and maintain value through the provision of professional practices that build competencies that align with and help accomplish the organisation's goals. I am looking forward to leading the HR team to continue to support and facilitate the achievement of the objectives of this world-class teaching and research institution."
