On 15 January 2009, Professor CJ Lim (UCL Pro-Provost for North America) hosted a drinks reception for UCL students from the region's three countries: Canada, Mexico, and the United States.

UCL faculties and disciplines at all levels of studies were represented at the event held in the Old Refectory. Those present were especially delighted to have the opportunity to meet fellow students from the other countries within the region.

Among the special guests were: Mr Brendan Griggs, the Head of Cultural & Academic Programmes at the Canadian High Commission; Ms Aida Velasco Perez, Director of Science and Education at the Embassy of Mexico; Professor Malcolm Grant (UCL President and Provost); and Professor Michael Worton (UCL Vice Provost, Academic and International), who were all on hand specifically to find out directly from the students themselves about their motivation for coming to UCL, their experiences of study here, and their future plans.

Currently studying at UCL are 664 Americans,118 Canadians and 49 Mexicans.
