  • UCL Geography, in association with UCL Grand Challenges, is holding a 'town meeting' on 30 April 2008 to bring together those across UCL interested in migration, diaspora, ethnicity and intercultural studies.

The event will draw on the wealth of researchers across UCL - including anthropologists, economists, historians, criminologists, archaeologists, health researchers and legal scholars - whose work encompasses issues around migration, diaspora and ethnicity. UCL Geography wishes to develop greater interdisciplinary work within UCL and to consider the future development of its Migration Research Unit.

The 'town meeting' is a chance for colleagues to consider opportunities for developing challenging, innovative, cross-disciplinary projects focused on migration, diaspora and ethnicity that build on the diversity of expertise within UCL.

    The event will facilitate:

    • interaction between colleagues working on issues of migration, diaspora, ethnicity and intercultural studies
    • discussion of the establishment of a UCL Migration Network that could initially consist of a multidisciplinary seminar series starting in September 2008
    • proposals for contributions to an MSc in Migration that UCL Geography is proposing to launch in 2010, and the possibility of an interdisciplinary approach to its development
    • discussion of interests in historical studies of the African Diaspora.

The 'town meeting' is on 30 April 2008, 3-6pm (followed by drinks), in Room G06, Sir Ambrose Fleming Lecture Theatre, Roberts Building.
