New widening participation annual report

15 August 2007

UCL’s Widening Participation Unit has published an annual report detailing its activities undertaken throughout 2005–2006.

The unit seeks to:

  • broaden awareness of higher education among students from under-represented groups
  • raise the aspirations of the brightest of these students to seek the best education that is right for them
  • increase the numbers of students from non-traditional backgrounds admitted to UCL
  • maintain and, if possible, increase the excellent progression and retention rates of all students once they have embarked upon their undergraduate degree programmes at UCL.

Over 2005–2006 activities included school and college visits, student tutoring and mentoring, summer schools, admission interview guidance, taster courses and a number of departmental initiatives.
