Research published in ‘Neuron’ today by psychologists at the UCL Institute of Cognitive Neuroscience shows that introducing completely new facts when learning significantly improves memory performance.
A new study has found that the part of the brain responsible for regulating our motivation and reward-processing responds better to novelty than to the familiar. This means memory is improved even when the brain is tied up with new information. The link between memory, novelty, motivation and reward could help patients with memory problems.
