Qatar visit to UCL

UCL welcomed Her Highness Sheikha Mozah of Qatar for an informal visit to UCL in January 2006.

The Sheikha was accompanied by a delegation including the director of her office, HE Dr Abdullah bin Hussein al-Kubaissi, Qatar University President HE Dr Sheikha bint Abdullah Al-Missned and higher education adviser at the Qatar Foundation for Education, Science & Community Development, Dr Fathi Saoud.

The Sheikha has a public role in leading a wide range of initiatives in Qatar, particularly in the areas of family, education, science, community development, health and cultural heritage.

The Sheikha had talks with the President and Provost of UCL, Professor Malcolm Grant, and the Vice-Provost (Academic & International), Professor Michael Worton. Other UCL colleagues in the discussions were Professor Vince Emery, UCL Pro-Provost for South Asia and the Middle East, Dr Athem Alsabti of the University of London Observatory and Ms Sally Macdonald from UCL's Petrie Museum of Egyptian Archaeology.

The talks were wide ranging around potential areas of collaboration between UCL and Qatar, where investment in education and in research is a high priority. The visit of the Sheikha underlines UCL's commitment to building relationships with key partners across the world.
