UCL named in Stonewall's Top 100 employers list

31 January 2018

UCL has been named as one of the UK's best employers for lesbian, gay, bi and trans staff in the Stonewall 2018 Top 100 Employers Index.

Stonewall UCL ranked 98th out of 434 participating organisations.

The inclusion of UCL in the Top 100 Employers Index is a major triumph for the organisation, as it currently places UCL as the only UK university with an Athena SWAN Silver Award; a Bronze Race Equality Chartermark and a place in the Stonewall Top 100.

UCL President & Provost Professor Michael Arthur commented:

"I am delighted with UCL's progress within the Workplace Equality Index and proud that we have secured a place in the top 100 ranking this year.

Our LGBTQ+ equality agenda goes from strength to strength. During 2017 I was proud to officially launch our Friends of Out@UCL network which has given an increased inclusive visible presence across campus. Our senior leaders got behind the initiative by creating statements of support too. We took that visibility on to the streets of London in the summer as a group of LGBTQ+ staff and allies participated in London Pride. Our academic community contribute to our diverse and vibrant culture with many activities, discussions and events throughout the year - all of which enrich us as a UCL community."

While this gives us cause for celebration, by no means is our work done - far from it. We will work closely with the LGBT+ Students' Network and qUCL, UCL's LGBTQ+ research network, to ensure we keep LGBTQ+ equality on the agenda.

The Stonewall Top 100 Employers are the best performing employers on Stonewall's Workplace Equality Index 2018, an annual audit of workplace culture for lesbian, gay, bi and trans staff.

The Workplace Equality Index is free to enter for any employer.

As part of the Index there is a staff feedback questionnaire that participating employers can ask their staff to complete. This year Stonewall received over 92,000 responses to the staff survey making it one of the largest national employment surveys in Britain.

All of the Top 100 are members of Stonewall's Diversity Champions programme.
