Drawings from Darfur

As part of a series of events at UCL marking Darfur Week and the launch of the UCL Grand Challenge of Intercultural Interaction, UCL Laws is hosting an exhibition 'Drawings from Darfur' from 24 November to 4 December 2009, available to view from 3-5 pm on these days.

The exhibition, curated by London-based charity Article 1, is the result of a fact-finding mission to Eastern Chad that aimed to assess the humanitarian, human rights and security situation in the region.

Among the testimonies Article 1 collected from Darfuri refugees and displaced Chadians were over 500 drawings made by children aged 6 to 18. The majority of the drawings describe attacks on their village by Sudanese Government forces and the Janjaweed militia; they are thus witness statements and have been accepted as contextual evidence of war crimes by the International Criminal Court.

This event is co-hosted by the UCL Intercultural Interaction Grand Challenge. The exhibition is held at Keeton Room in the UCL Law Faculty, Bentham House, Endsleigh Gardens.

Please note that some may find the violent subject matter of these drawings upsetting.
