The Science Collections
Introduction
Many scientific discoveries and engineering innovations have been made at UCL and these important collections demonstrate the enormous contribution UCL has made to the advancement of science.
Highlights
The collections include a mix of prototypes, historic lab equipment and experimental apparatus. The collections include such varied objects as the Nobel Prize citation and medal awarded to Sir William Ramsay for his discovery of the Nobel Gases; Sir Ambrose Flemings original thermionic valves;and Britain's very first x-ray used for clinical purposes.
History
Science and Engineering subjects have been taught at UCL since the founding of the University, in 1828, and the collections reflect the almost 200 years of the history of the various departments.
