Visit the Petrie Museum
Admission to the Museum is free of charge. Young people over the age 11 can visit the museum unaccompanied.
Open to the public Tuesday to Saturday 13.00 – 17.00.
We are also open for group and individual researcher visits on weekday mornings 10am - 1pm and all day Monday, but booking for this is essential - please contact the museum.
The Museum will be closed on 21st December, and throughout January and February 2014, in order to have major repairs to and installation of new-lights in the museum. Cases will be better lit across the museum with greater conservation protection for objects, as well as having a more environmentally sustainable system in place. Meanwhile, the Petrie Museum is going on tour around UCL Campus and Camden, with events excavating Pots and Petrie - we may be popping-up somewhere near you! We plan to re-open the museum again on Tuesday 4 March. Visitor opening times and hours as before Tuesday - Saturday, 1-5pm.
If you have mobility difficulties please contact us in advance of your visit and we will do our best to help. We may be able to arrange parking for you in the main university quadrangle (off Gower Street, see map). There is a banner over the entrance to the museum, which is located on the first floor of the DMS Watson library. Staff at the security desk just inside the library entrance will be able to direct you to the museum (there are signs) and will give you a free visitor card which will give you access to the museum for the day.
There is lift access to the museum on the first floor, and to the toilet for visitors with disabilities on the third floor. Inside the museum visitors must negotiate two steps to reach the second gallery: a wheelchair lift is available. Occasionally on Saturdays in vacation time, or for evening events, lift access may not be possible; please contact us in advance of your visit to check.
Lighting within the museum is less than ideal, and we offer visitors the loan of torches. Seating is available.
Photography without flash is allowed, but if you wish to order photographs ask a member of the museum staff when you visit.
Groups are welcome to visit but for space reasons booking is ESSENTIAL. Tuesday and Wednesday mornings are set aside for school groups. To discuss your requirements and make bookings contact us by email or ring us on +44 (0)20 7679 2884. We offer a variety of teaching and learning resources and services.
