Introduction

UCL IoA Collections Pottery from Southern Levant

This collection contains important and representative groups of material from sites throughout the Near East. These have come from the excavations of such notable archaeologists as Sir Leonard Woolley, Max Mallowan, Charles Burney, John Garstang, Dame Kathleen Kenyon, Dorothy Garrod, Peter Parr and Sir Flinders Petrie.

The Petrie Palestinian Collection, in particular, is of international importance, consisting of over 12,000 objects excavated from Tell Jemmeh, Tell Fara south, Tell Ajjul, and the Wadi Ghazzeh area in the late 1920s and early 1930s.

The following list represents many of the sites in the Collections. Some of this material may be seen on display in the A.G. Leventis Gallery of Cypriot and Eastern Mediterranean Archaeology, located next to the Institute of Archaeology foyer.
