23 Base of the Skull

Title: Base of the Skull

Artist/ Source: Joseph Lister (1827-1912)

Date: 1874

Medium/ Technique: Pencil

UCL Art Museum #4804

Lister drew this skull nearly 24 years after the other drawings that are held by the UCL Art Museum. His handwriting has changed completely, as is the medium that he employs (he would have alternated between pencil and chalk at different points depending on the intended use of the drawing or the materials he had available). Lister’s pencil drawing evinces a light touch and does not have the same striking materiality as his chalk drawings, but a more schematic, less colourful appearance.
