Ivory, bone and wooden tablets of the First Dynasty

Actions are shown on the tablets as pictures; it seems that at this time verbs were not written down. Next to the pictures names and short inscriptions are given.

Most of the tablets were found in the kings tombs at Abydos and in the Early Dynastic tombs at Saqqara.

The tablets give events of single years for the purpose of dating. The tablets were tied to vessels with expensive oil as labels. The quantity and quality of oil is also given.
