Saqqara: the Sacred Animal Necropolis: UC 30691

Model coffin. Anthropoid coffins and sarcophagi of the Late Period and Ptolemaic Period show often an overproportianal big head. The body is decorated with religious texts and sometimes with pictures of deities. This example is a model coffin, based on the described type. This style is well known from many stone sarcophagi found at sites throughout the country.
