Scale armour is typical for Egypt and the Near East, while in Greek and Europe in general body armour was used (large plates of metal or one metal piece covering the whole chest).

  • Gonen 1975: 78-85 (on armour in the Near East and Europe in general)
  • Hoffmeier 2001 (on weapons in Ancient Egypt, p. 410: scale armour is known already in the New Kingdom)
  • Snodgrass 1964: 71-90 (on armour in Ancient Greece), 85 (mentioning scale armour found in Greece, perhaps imports from the Near East)
