Matmar (Al-Matmar)
(27°06' N 31°20'E)

Site in Upper Egypt; the cemeteries cover almost all periods of pharaonic history. The excavators recorded the Third Intermediate Period burials with unusual care; most of them were found undisturbed, and therefore they give a good idea of burial customs of non-elite individuals living in the provinces.
