Faience in the Old Kingdom (about 2686-2181 BC)

Faience was used in the Old Kingdom for a wide range of objects. Faience tiles used as wall decorations are known from several places. Votive objects in temples are often made in faience (compare Hierakonpolis). Composite vessels of wood with faience inlays are known from the Fifth Dynasty.
