Hierakonpolis (Kom el-Ahmar, Nekhen)

Main town on the West Bank in the third province of Upper Egypt.

Cemeteries and settlement site, of prime importance in the Pre- and Early Dynastic Period. Cult centre of the god Horus of Nekhen, flourishing particularly in the Early Dynastic Egypt and in the Old Kingdom (about 2686-2181 BC).
