Hawara, Roman Period gold tongues

On the tongues of some mummies excavated by Petrie were found thin plates of gold. Petrie observed that they were standardised in weight, and identified the units of weight as the following:

1. the gold standard of the 'pek' = deben
2. the Egyptian and Babylonian standard called sikhis.

His interpretation and the accuracy of the ancient names for the weights require further research.
