Hawara, a burial group

A group of five mummies placed into a shallow hole into the ground. The bodies were found in two layers, one above the other. Four of the mummies were adorned with a mummy portrait. Two of these portraits are now in the Petrie Museum, one is in Brighton, the fourth one had already been removed in antiquity.

The portrait was removed before the burial was made. The linen of the mummy bore an inscription. The portrait Brighton R 137 was found on this mummy.
